I was inspired by a song . The song is "One day you will" by Martina McBride. The lyrics were written by Richard Leigh and Shane Teeters. Disclaimer: I don't own the characters, wish I did. I only borrowed them, but I returned them as soon as I was finished. One Day You Will by Cassie Kirk Sheba sat in the celestial chamber staring out at the heavens. It was so calm, so peaceful, and so perfect. It was no wonder Apollo came here when he wanted to be alone and think. Apollo. It felt like yahrens since she last spoke to him on the bridge of the Cylon Raider. Where she kissed him for the first time. She would have liked to make it more passionate, but knew that anything other than what it was would have scared him off completely. Sheba sighed and shook her head. "I wish I never saw that transmission," she whispered. She knew her discovery was what ultimately led to the 'suicide mission' that Apollo and Starbuck had just returned from. "I wish Apollo hadn't brought me here." But she knew it wasn't true. She loved the celestial chamber as much as Apollo did. And she loved him for sharing it with her. She loved him. Sheba inhaled sharply. Lords, did she love him. She couldn't remember when exactly she fell in love with Apollo, but she could pinpoint when she knew for certain that she loved him. It was when Apollo asked her how she liked his special place. Sheba wondered if he even realized her answer of 'I love it' was really telling him 'I love you'. But, she was sure Apollo never noticed. It was rather subtle, and to Apollo, a direct hit by Noman laser bols was even too subtle. When Apollo asked Sheba if she wanted to sit in the chair she now occupied, it was all she could do to keep herself from throwing her arms around his neck and kissing him. She wondered what it would feel like to be truly kissed by Apollo. Sheba knew what her father would say if he could see her. Cain would tell her she was making a fool of herself over a man who didn't love her. But, she knew Apollo loved her. He just wasn't ready to admit it yet. She was reminded of a song her mother used to like to sing. It was an old Cancerian ballad about a woman who loved a man, and knew they would one day be together, despite his belief that he didn't need her. If she closed her eyes, she could almost hear her mother's voice. ********** I am timeless, I am patient I'm beside you and above I'm the words when you need comfort I'm the feeling you call love ********** Sheba knew she had to be patient when it came to Apollo. It was going to be hard, since she knew she wasn't the most patient woman in the colonies. But, Apollo was worth waiting for. Sheba was prepared to wait a long time for Apollo if she needed to. She planned to be wherever he was and make him take notice of her. She would be there with words of comfort when he needed them. She would be there to listen while he complained and then she would gently smooth the worry lines from his face. She wanted her hands to be the hands that soothed his tired aching muscles after he returned from a long patrol. ********** You say that you can take or leave me You think right now that you don't need me Some way, somehow young heart believe me One day you will One day you will ********** Sheba knew that it wasn't that Apollo didn't need her. It was that he didn't want to need her. He acted like he didn't need anyone or any thing. He tended to hold everyone at a distance. Except Boxey. And Starbuck. "Starbuck," Sheba whispered. Apollo's best friend. They were very close, like brothers. When Apollo and Starbuck spoke, they often conveyed a message that wasn't in their actual words. Sometimes they didn't even need words to speak; only a glance was sufficient. But, Sheba knew that not even Starbuck knew everything that was in Apollo's heart. Sheba had a few friends on board the Galactica. But none of those friends shared closeness with her. Of course, there was her wingman, Bojay. But when she compared their relationship to that of Apollo and Starbuck, she found something lacking. The stars were the only things she could really count on. Sheba stood up and stretched. She was tired and needed rest, yet she didn't want to sleep, knowing her dreams would haunt her with the memory of the kiss she gave Apollo. She stepped down from the tiny workstation in the center off the dome and moved to sit on the tiny ledge surrounding the chamber. *But, stars are cold companions,* she thought as she stared out at the tiny specks of light. ********** You're a vessel, you're a temple You're a journey just begun You're a young one who is running You are destined to find love ********** Sheba sat down, almost collapsing onto the ledge. She gingerly leaned forward until her forehead touched the transparent tylinium wall that protected the chamber. She felt the sting of tears in her eyes but made no move to wipe them away. Her tears on her cheeks were warm in contrast to the coolness of the tylinium on her forehead. Sheba knew Apollo was running from his feelings. That was the only reason he took the missions he did. She was reminded of something her mother used to say. Aleena used to tell her that everyone was like a ship. Sometimes ships passed each other, and at other times they crashed into one another. But, on rare occasions, they found another ship to sail with them. And, together, those two ships were stronger than one ship was alone. Sheba shivered and rubbed her hands on her arms to warm herself up. It was hard to remember her mother at times. At other times she could remember her so clearly, from her soft golden hair that would curl up when it was wet, to the apron she wore over her clothes even when she wasn't preparing a meal. And if she closed her eyes and breathed deeply, she could clearly smell the soft scent of the perfume Aleena wore because she knew her husband liked it. Sheba wished her mother were there. She needed her now more than ever. ********** And when you're lost, that's when you'll find me We can't see till we are blinded It's already all been decided That one day you will One day you will ********** Sheba heard a soft click and then a creak as the hatch to the chamber was opened. She turned and put her hands over her ears to drown out the sounds of the thrusters from the room below. Her breath caught in her throat as she saw Apollo climb into the room. He shut the hatch quickly and removed his headphones before turning to Sheba. "I've been looking for you." "Why? So you could come up here and tell me 'I told you so'?" Sheba turned away. She wasn't about to let Apollo see her cry. "No. That's not why." Apollo's tone was unreadable. "Why then?" Sheba whispered. "We need to talk." Apollo reached out his hand and gently touched her shoulder. Sheba spun around knocking his hand off and crossed her arms. "So, talk already." Apollo stared at her face. Her expression gave away nothing as to how she felt. *She'd be very good in a Pyramid game against Starbuck,* Apollo thought absentmindedly before turning his thoughts back to what he originally wanted to talk about. "You aren't making this easy for me." Sheba just stared at him. Her heart was pounding so loud she was sure Apollo could hear it. She tried to control her breathing so it looked normal; that is when she remembered she had to breathe and stopped holding her breath. "And why should I make this easy on you? You certainly didn't make things easy for me." Sheba poked Apollo in the chest as he stepped forward. Apollo grabbed her hand, and held it in an almost vise like grip. ********** You say that you can take or leave me You think right now that you don't need me Some way, somehow young heart believe me One day you will One day you will ********** "Because, I love you, dammit!" Sheba could see Apollo's green eyes flash with a mixture of annoyance and passion. Sheba was speechless. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it for lack of finding the right words. Apollo just watched her to gage her reaction. When he received no response, he dropped her wrist and turned away. He hadn't meant to tell her he loved her in that way. He had wanted to build up to telling her. Seduce her a little. Take her to the Rising Star for dinner in a private room. He wanted to kiss her gently and let her feel that he loved her before he actually said the words. "Apollo," Sheba said, almost sobbing. Apollo turned back to her. He saw the tears streaming down her cheeks. Impulsively he gathered her into his arms and sat down with her on the ledge around the dome. "Shhh, shhh," he soothed and held her close and carefully kissed away each tear. "Please don't cry over me, Sheba. I'm not worth your tears," he whispered. Sheba frowned through her tears. "You are worth far more than a few tears. You are a stupid, stubborn, impossible man who is worth more than what I can give because, you are also honest, honorable, dependable and have the sexiest body..." Sheba squeaked as Apollo silenced her with a kiss. There were so many times when they fought that Apollo had to resist the urge to just kiss Sheba, just to get her to be quiet. She was so beautiful when she was angry. And, it was usually him that she turned her anger on. Sometimes he would deliberately provoke a fight just to see the way her eyes would darken when she really let loose. When Apollo broke the kiss, Sheba pouted, but something in his expression made her remain silent. She rested her head on his shoulder and sighed. She was content to finally be in his arms. And, at the moment, her questions could wait. "I love you, Sheba. I have for a long time," Apollo began. "Even though you are a maddening, stubborn, impulsive, hot-tempered, woman," Apollo stopped her hand as Sheba raised it to punch him in the chest, "who also has an incredibly honest, generous heart. And the most loyalty, love and sheer blinding courage of anyone I've ever known, and I am never going to let you go." Sheba pulled back slightly, her deep brown eyes staring into Apollo's clear green ones. "I guess there's only one thing I have left to tell you." She smiled as she gently caressed his cheek. "What's that?" "I love you." "I know," Apollo said, his voice soft with certainty. "I know." And then he captured her mouth in another kiss. ********** I am timeless, I am patient.
