Subject: Hotel Carillon - A Long Shot From an Old Fave Date: Thu, 23 Jul 1998 From: "Dr. Charles Norris" Hey gang, Been having fun with all these BSG-based "Weird-Al-isms" of ours. This one here is based on an old song from the same era as BSG (it came out in late 1977 and was up high in the Top 40 during BSG's first run). It was by a group that came and went very quickly, but was indeed one of my favorite groups of that time. The group had maybe a dozen Top 40 hits, but most of the time, you mention them and people just look at you funny as if to say, "Who da frack izzat?" Nevertheless, their stuff was significant in my early teen years. The original song (before my perversion of it below) was in fact very much in the vein of BSG in theme (as were most hippie-esque songs of that day, moping of doom and gloom and peace and love...but I love the 70s for its music). And the song always moved me deeply because I used to think of it in a BSG setting/context. So consider this a semi-comical but semi-serious blast-from-my-past... It might help to think of my impression of Adama, and what's going on in his mind, in "Lost Planet of the Gods" from the time the Fleet enters to void, to what must have been bugging him when he was on Kobol just before Baltar shows up on the scene. Enjoy. Chuck EARTH IS THE ANSWER (to the tune of "Love is the Answer" by England Dan & John Ford Coley) Name your price, a ticket to paradise We can't stay here anymore We must look high and low Must go from star to star to star If there's a shortcut, we'll have found it But there is no easy way around it Light up the void, shine on me - Earth is the Answer Shine on us all, set us free - Earth is the Answer Who knows why, all of our worlds, they had to die Now we're all homeless boys and girls And we are never heard But there's a lonely lonely lonely word Cylons shoot us dead and walk on by Tell me is it worth just another try. Light up the void, shine on me - Earth is the Answer Shine on us all, set us free - Earth is the Answer Tell me, is it alive? Or just a dying planet? What are the chances? We are plannin' so hard, for the answers. And now we feel afraid And we have lost our way And we are all alone And we're far from home And we're down and out Seems like our hope's run out We sure could use a friend Cuz we are near the end Love, we got to love, we got to love one another... Light up the void, shine on me - Earth is the Answer Shine on us all, set us free - Earth is the Answer
